So just why do I own a site like Natural Birth and Baby Care.com? Well I’m sure if you’ve spent some time browsing the site, you’ve figured out I’m pretty passionate about natural birth. I want to share that with you. But Natural Birth and Baby Care is also my business. I am very, very glad I own a website. I’ve been reflecting on it a lot this week and thought I’d share
This site is 3 and a half years old now. I’ve been working on it consistently and I share a lot of good information with you. I also get a lot out of it – I get a lot of emails from women asking about their situations. I get a lot of emails from dads-to-be asking about their situations! I like answering emails and helping people. I love when I get emails telling me you’ve found value in the information on my site.
It’s a creative outlet for me, a way for me to give back, and a way for me to help you out. I sincerely hope that my site helps women have healthier pregnancies and good birth experiences. It’s gratifying to know that I can serve others through my website even while I raise my family.
That’s the biggest reason I’m glad I own my website – my family. My website earns money for my family. Of course I like that! But the real reason I love this site is that it earns money from my family while letting me devote as much time as my family needs from me to my family.
I sincerely believe that my most important task in life is serving my family. Being a wife to my husband and mother to my children is why I am here
My life is rewarding and enriching (and never EVER boring). My days and my hands are full (and so is my heart). I could spend all day, every day taking care of my husband, my children, my home (and my fledgling garden!) – and that would be lovely for me. Give me my husband and kids, and lots of non-fiction books on things like babies, homeschooling, and homesteading and I am happy.
And in this way, Natural Birth and Baby Care serves me as much as it serves you. I feel good sharing my knowledge, experience, and resources with you. I feel good knowing I’m creating income for my family. And I LOVE that I can completely, totally, and 100% ignore this website for a few days and tend to my family, my life, and my loves and guess what… it just keeps on going! You keep getting the information you’re after. I keep making money. The only deadlines are the ones I set. The only hours are the ones I have time to work. The only demands are those I make.
Don’t be mistaken – I couldn’t count the hours I’ve devoted to this site in the last 3 and a half years. Countless hours. I’ve worked hard on it. I still work hard answering emails, researching, interviewing, checking out books and products, and gathering hands-on-experience (my favorite task, by the way :p) But the fact remains, I can drop it all in an instant and be there for what matters most – now and forever – my family. And that is the perfect business for me

Hi Kristen,
My wife has a somewhat similar story (though she’s about 3 1/2 years behind you). She wanted to have time to spend with our family but still work for on something she was passionate about. She had two natural births and really connected with our doula and midwives group and wanted to be part of the conversation. I’m really proud of her. It’s great to see her fired up about it. She even got me involved by having me write a husband’s perspective last week. It’s really encouraging to see it paying off for you. I know if you calculated the hours put in it might not make sense on paper, but I still think it’s great.
Cheers,
Ed
