I know some people don’t like the term “baby bump” but I’ve never had a problem with it. I think it’s kind of cute, actually.

But today at the end of our quiet time (aka naptime) I was trying to feel exactly where my uterus is sitting. I can certainly feel it now when I lie on my belly but it’s not really sticking out yet. At 20 weeks the top of the uterus is generally at the belly button. So I have several weeks to go before it gets there, but it’s growing.

Anyways, I found it, but it felt strange. Normally I just feel a hard little bump, but today I felt a hard bump with a lump to one side. At first I thought it was because I’d been napping on my side and stuff had just shifted. But I think it’s possible that the baby was balled up right there and I happened to go poking around right then :p

I grabbed my copy of Great Expectations: Your All-in-One Resource for Pregnancy & Childbirth (conveniently on my bedside table) and thumbed through to read about how big my baby is right now. It says that baby is 3-4 inches long. Not sure if that’s crown to rump or head to toe. But either way, wow! Baby is getting big! And it means that little lump I felt could have feasibly been a curled up baby. (In case you’re wondering said bump within bump appears to have swam elsewhere now )

I love spending time thinking about the baby – something hard to do sometimes with three other children, a business, and a home to take care of. I certainly try to take it easy but life just flies sometimes. I treasure the times I can just sit back and think about our baby, imagine what he or she is doing. I’ve been feeling little flutters lately as well, a few every day (the first movements are called quickening. to me they feel like little bubbles popping inside). I can’t wait to be feeling solid kicks. It’s all so exciting
