We had a prenatal appointment with our midwife last week which I didn’t write about. It was a pretty normal appointment; I’d gained 3lbs and everything looked pretty good. My midwife looked over my diet (which she said was very good, even with the occasional “treat”), and we talked about the older three kiddos births.
Now that’s always something I love to do - talk about their births. I remember them so clearly. I don’t always remember the amount of pain involved, but I remember the experiences. And I remember how much each of them weighed and how joyful it was to have them in my arms at last.
But anyways, I digress! My midwife checked on the baby. I’m measuring about a week ahead but all looks very good. The baby was literally curled in a ball near the top of my uterus and my midwife was able to cup her hand around his/her body. That was really cool. We got the kids gathered around and listened to the baby’s heartbeat. That is always something I love. It was a good appointment and I’m liking my midwife a lot.
This week I had an appointment with my family doctor to chat about the pregnancy. Since we moved recently and she’s new to me (and me to her) it was nice to get to sit and talk. I’m really impressed with the doctor’s office. I’ve been impressed since the first time I went in - to take the kids in for their annual checkups.
Scott and I would like to get an ultrasound done to find out the baby’s sex and to check the baby over. I don’t really feel it necessary from a health perspective because it’s not going to change my mind about continuing my pregnancy. But we really want to know the baby’s sex and so we decided to time an ultrasound to when we’d get the most information about the baby.
My family doctor does the ultrasound referral so we talked about that some and she got it set up for me. I’m super, super excited. Even giddy, as Scott can tell you ;) It’s exciting to think of seeing my baby and knowing if baby is a boy or girl. I’ve gone back and forth this time over if I want to be surprised or not and I really think I’d like to know and so would Scott. And it will finally put an end to the kids going back and forth about “the baby is a GIRL!” “no, the baby is a BOY!” So it shouldn’t be too much longer before I make that all exciting gender announcement about the baby (baby willing to show the goods of course) - stay tuned for an update :p
